How do I become a Christian?
Becoming a Christian is one of the easiest things in the world … A Christian is simply someone who has faith in Jesus Christ as his/her personal Saviour (See "What is a Christian?") To put our faith Jesus Christ, the Bible says we need to "Repent and believe the good news" (Mark 1:15). Repenting means we choose to turn our lives around. We recognize that we are not perfect, holy and pure like God is. We acknowledge we have made mistakes. And we want to change. So we are willing to confess our sin to God and ask Him to forgive us and to change us. Believing
means we choose to put our faith in Jesus Christ as the one who has saved
us. We believe it when Jesus says, "whoever believes in me ... has eternal
life" (John 3:16).
It is important that you immediately take the step of obedience to Jesus to join with a local community of fellow Christians – a church – and be baptized, so you can be nurtured and can grow in your faith. And it is important that you begin to read the Bible and put into practice what you read! Jesus emphasizes time and time again that becoming a Christian changes the way we live! This is an area where a Christian friend or new friends at a church can help you tremendously! Copyright 1999 by
